Various forms of entertainment are on offer at the Conservancy beyond game drives and walks, but whatever you get up to during the day there’s little to beat sitting by the crackling fire-pit in the evening, while fortifying the inner man with South Africa’s gluggable produce…
One afternoon Pete broke out his shotgun and 7mm rifle and let us loose off a few rounds*
(* Not really! We were given expert tuition, and after careful instruction and under close supervision with full Personal Protective Equipment, we discharged both weapons against airborne and grounded clay targets)
I was completely hopeless with the shotgun, but some of my old .22 target shooting experience at school came back with the rifle, and I did OK.
Several of the others did well with both, and I caught the moment when Martyn hit a grounded clay with the shotgun first shot at quite long range, identifying himself as the Great White Hunter of choice to have with you when the rhino charges**.
(** Or, at least, to make sure you’re further away than he is…)
After supper, some quiet contemplation and good conversation by the fire, under the African stars.
Two lodges are available providing accommodation on the Conservancy, which can be rented by the room or in their entirety. More information is available: https://karooridgeconservancy.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/karooridgeconservancy/
