Puglia, at the ‘heel’ of Italy, is famous for its stone-built trulli. These began life as round storehouses with conical rooves, but later were adapted as dwellings in this once grindingly poor area of the country. Now they are tourist magnets, often over restored and over visited, and none so much as in the tiny village of Alberobello.
