I stopped off for a drizzly couple of hours at the lovely RSPB Blacktoft Sands reserve on my way to a coastal bird workshop at Bempton Cliffs in March 2018.
It's set in a marshy reedbed on the southern edge of the Humber estuary and has fine hides.
A bittern was booming tantalisingly deep in the reeds, but no sightings were reported on the day I was there.
A place to come back to during better weather.
